Current status and development trend of LED


As a new technology, LED has driven the development of various technologies related to its surrounding areas. At the same time, it has gradually produced various unexpected problems in its development. New market participants have redefine the market by their original advantages.

The popularity of LED luminaire technology, due to its low energy consumption, is seen as an ideal alternative to traditional lamps that consume a lot of energy. Coupled with its rich colors, it is widely used in home lighting, commercial lighting, and landscape lighting. With the continuous improvement of LED light efficiency, the maturity of heat dissipation technology, and the advancement of drive technology, it has been exerted on indoor and outdoor lamps in the past two years.

Indoor products are closer to the lives of ordinary people and have huge market potential. The main sales in the domestic market are LED downlights, ceiling lights, bean spotlights and track lights. Early downlights and spotlights basically used single-particle LEDs to design different circuit boards to accommodate different powers and calibers.

There are three main problems with such products:


First, due to the lack of mastery of various LED technologies, the product has a high failure rate. Once it fails, it needs to replace the entire product, instead of replacing the light source like a traditional product. As a result, the maintenance cost is very high;

The second is: the light emitted by the LED is not a uniform circular spot required by the designer, but a superposition of several spots;

The third is that different LED particle combinations and caliber products require re-structural, optical and thermal design, resulting in a corresponding increase in design costs, mold costs, storage costs and manufacturing costs.

In order to solve the above problems, the current LED products also have some trends. For example, for the traditional QRCBC and QR111 halogen lamps, the same size LED light source can be used, and the original transformer and the lamp body can be used, and the light source can be replaced like a conventional lamp.

In addition, there is a trend to use COB packages and ZHAGA-compliant light engines to standardize LED light sources, increase luminous flux while reducing dimensions, and reduce design and manufacturing costs. For spotlights, the ultra-narrow beam angle is one of the advantages of luminaire manufacturers in design and manufacturing.

Dimming is also the development trend of lighting products. The dimming method of domestic indoor products is mainly 0~10V, and there are still relatively few DALI dimming methods applied in the international market. Because it is realized that LED dimming may cause color drift, the dimming requirement is no longer a simple voltage regulation current, but mainly PWM. However, this will also bring problems such as EMC to be further resolved.

In the choice of color temperature, the domestic trend is 2700K and lower color temperature to bring warm and comfortable feeling. In addition, for indoor products, special attention should be paid to photobiosafety, and different filters are designed to achieve different light distribution effects.

Another trend is that the color of the flexible circuit board is mainly yellow to better mix the color temperature and light. There is also a type of flat panel light, but the current market is more concerned about its light uniformity, generally used for decorative lighting.
